400 series stainless steel is an alloy of iron, carbon, and chromium. Because it does not contain nickel, it is a nickel saving stainless steel, also known as stainless steel. 400 series stainless steel has normal magnetic properties because it contains martensite structure and iron element.
400 series stainless steel has strong resistance to high-temperature oxidation, and its physical and mechanical properties have been further improved compared to carbon steel. Most 400 series stainless steels can undergo heat treatment.
Composition and characteristics: The commonly used 400 series stainless steel varieties include 430, 410, 420, 409L, etc. Among them, 430 stainless steel is the most commonly used. The chromium content of 430 stainless steel is 18%, which is characterized by low price, small coefficient of thermal expansion, and better chloride stress corrosion resistance than 300 series stainless steel; But its shortcomings are also relatively obvious: its formability, weldability, and tensile strength are smaller than those of the 300 series stainless steel model, which limits its scope of use. The chromium content of 410 and 420 stainless steels is 13%, and their main characteristic is high hardness.
Under the same chromium content, 400 series stainless steel has the same corrosion resistance as 300 series stainless steel in oxidizing media such as atmosphere, fresh water,and is superior to 200 series stainless steel. Adding trace elements such as niobium, titanium, copper, and aluminum can improve its deep drawing performance, weldability, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature strength, and can partially replace 300 series stainless steel.
Stainless steel shaped pipes are widely used in various structural components, tools, and mechanical components. Compared with circular pipes, stainless steel shaped pipes generally have larger moments of inertia and cross-sectional modulus, and have greater bending and torsion resistance, which can greatly reduce structural weight and save steel.
