Introduce
Cold forging is a metal processing technology in which pressure is applied to metal billets through molds at room temperature to make them plastically deformed for forming. Relying on the processing characteristics at room temperature, this process can refine metal grains and improve the performance of parts such as strength and hardness. At the same time, it has the advantages of high material utilization rate, high precision, good surface quality and high production efficiency, and is suitable for mass production. However, it also has limitations such as large equipment investment, short mold service life and high requirements for the plasticity of materials. Cold forging is widely applied in industries such as automobiles, electronics, aerospace and machinery manufacturing. With the development of technology, it is continuously moving towards precision to meet the needs of industrial production with higher precision.
High Dimensional Accuracy:During the cold forging process, the metal material undergoes plastic deformation under the restriction of the die, enabling precise control of the dimensions and shape of the part, and achieving high dimensional accuracy. Generally, it can reach IT8 - IT11 grade, reducing the allowance for subsequent processing. In some cases, parts can even directly meet the final dimensional requirements without the need for further cutting processing.
Good Surface Quality:The surface roughness of parts after cold forging is relatively low, usually reaching Ra0.8 - Ra3.2μm, and the surface is smooth and flat. This is because during the cold forging process, the metal surface becomes denser under the extrusion of the die, and the surface finish of the die is also replicated onto the surface of the part, improving the appearance quality and assembly performance of the part.

The cold forging process can accurately manufacture these components while ensuring their surface quality and mechanical properties, meeting the usage requirements of medical devices.
2.Some metal components in disposable medical devices such as syringes and infusion sets also adopt the cold forging process for production. Cold forging can improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure the quality and safety of the products.
Building Hardware
1.Hardware accessories for building doors and windows, such as hinges and handles, can improve their precision and surface quality through the cold forging process, making the opening and closing of doors and windows smoother. At the same time, it can enhance the corrosion resistance and service life of the hardware accessories.
2.Various metal ornaments used in building decoration, such as handles and decorative strips, the cold forging process can make them present various exquisite shapes and surface effects, meeting the aesthetic requirements of building decoration.
Production process
Raw Material Preparation
Material Selection: According to the usage requirements and performance characteristics of cold forging parts, select appropriate metal materials, such as carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper alloy, aluminum alloy, etc. The purity, hardness, and microstructure of the materials will directly affect the quality and forming difficulty of cold forging parts.
Inspection: Conduct strict inspections on the purchased raw materials, including chemical composition analysis, hardness testing, and metallographic structure inspection, etc., to ensure that the materials meet the production requirements.
Blanking: Cut the raw materials into suitable blanks according to the size and weight requirements of the cold forging parts. The blanking methods usually include sawing, shearing, laser cutting, etc., and the cutting accuracy should meet the requirements of subsequent processing.
Die Design and Manufacturing
Design: According to the shape, size, precision requirements, and production batch of the cold forging parts, design a reasonable cold forging die structure. Die design needs to consider factors such as the metal flow law, demoulding method, and die strength to ensure the smooth progress of the cold forging process and the stable quality of the cold forging parts.
Manufacturing: Use high-quality die steel materials and manufacture the die through processes such as machining, electrical discharge machining, and wire cutting. The die manufacturing precision requirements are high, and the surface roughness should be low to ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the cold forging parts. After manufacturing, the die needs to be heat-treated to improve its hardness, strength, and wear resistance.
Blank Processing
Surface Treatment: In order to improve the forming performance and surface quality of the blank during the cold forging process, it is necessary to carry out surface treatment on the blank. Common surface treatment methods include phosphating, saponification, etc. These treatments can form a lubricating film on the surface of the blank, reduce the friction between the blank and the die during the cold forging process, reduce the forming force, and prevent metal sticking to the die.
Preheating: For some high-strength and high-hardness metal materials, in order to reduce the difficulty of cold forging, it is sometimes necessary to properly preheat the blank. The preheating temperature is generally between 100 - 300°C, and the specific temperature is determined according to the material type and cold forging process requirements.
Cold Forging Forming
Pre-forming: For cold forging parts with complex shapes, multi-step forming is usually required. The pre-forming process is to initially process the blank into a semi-finished product close to the final shape. By gradually changing the shape and size of the blank, the deformation amount and forming force during the final forming are reduced, and the quality and forming precision of the cold forging parts are improved. Final Forming: On the basis of pre-forming, put the blank into the final forming die, and make the blank undergo plastic deformation in the die cavity by applying a certain pressure and stroke to finally form a cold forging part that meets the design requirements. During the cold forging forming process, it is necessary to strictly control process parameters such as the forming speed, pressure, and die temperature to ensure the stable quality of the cold forging parts.
Subsequent Treatment
Demoulding: After cold forging forming, the cold forging parts need to be smoothly demoulded from the die. The demoulding methods usually include mechanical ejection, pneumatic ejection, etc. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the cold forging parts during the demoulding process. Cleaning: Remove impurities such as oil stains, iron filings, and scale from the surface of the cold forging parts. Common cleaning methods include pickling, sandblasting, shot blasting, etc. The surface of the cleaned cold forging parts should be clean, tidy, and free from obvious defects.
Heat Treatment: According to the performance requirements of the cold forging parts, carry out appropriate heat treatment on the cold forging parts, such as quenching, tempering, carburizing, nitriding, etc. Heat treatment can improve the strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance, and other properties of the cold forging parts to meet their usage requirements under different working conditions.
Machining: Some cold forging parts still need further machining after cold forging forming, such as drilling, tapping, grinding, milling, etc., to meet the final dimensional accuracy and surface quality requirements of the cold forging parts.
Surface Treatment: In order to improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and decorative properties of the cold forging parts, surface treatment can be carried out on the cold forging parts, such as electroplating, spraying, electroless plating, etc.
